Stat Pack: First Quarter Results

Stat Pack: First Quarter Results

Shane Murphy

Now that a quarter of the season has been played and every team has faced each other once, it’s a good time to take stock and see patterns emerging. Nine games into the season, Waterford lie in 8th place in the Premier Division.

The Blues have scored eight goals and conceded fifteen so far. Captain Pádraig Amond and Kyle White lead the way with two goals each while Rowan McDonald, Tommy Lonergan, Conan Noonan and Kacper Radkowski have all scored once.

Waterford have started quickly in three games to take the lead within the opening fifteen minutes – away to Sligo Rovers (13 minutes), away to Derry City (9 minutes) and at home to St Patrick’s Athletic (14 minutes). Five goals have been scored in the first half and three in the second. Only one goal has been scored in the last half hour of any game – White’s 87th minute winner against Cork City.

On the flip side, the Blues have conceded five times in the final ten minutes of matches. Six goals have been allowed in the first half of games (three in the opening quarter hour) and nine in second periods.

Waterford’s goals have come from four right-footed shots, two left-footed and two headers. One has been from outside the box – McDonald’s in Sligo. The Blues have conceded eight from inside the box including three headers, three from outside, three penalty kicks and an own goal.

In disciplinary matters, Waterford have had four penalties given against them as well as one red card and twenty-one yellows. Dean McMenamy has the most with three yellow cards.

Amond, Radkowski and goalkeeper Stephen McMullan have all played every minute of every game. Darragh Leahy and McMenamy are the only other two players to have featured in every game so far, either starting or as substitutes. In total, nineteen players have seen time on the pitch.
