Finders Keepers

Shane Murphy

Super keeper Stephen McMullan has now kept five clean sheets in his last six matches (one goal conceded). That grab at the feet of Luke Pearce early in the game might be the best bit of goalkeeping I’ve seen from anyone this season.

Amazingly, McMullan hasn’t conceded a goal in any of his four games against Sligo Rovers this year (0-0, 4-0 and 3-0 at home, 0-0 away). The Blues have seven clean sheets this season - all with Stevie in goal - and four have been against Sligo. The others have all come in recent weeks - away to Galway, home to Shelbourne and away to St Pat’s.

Still only 21, the loanee from Fleetwood Town is really growing in confidence and his kicking has become key to Waterford’s tactics under Graham Coughlan. Some of his passes in Inchicore were sublime and one set up the crucial first goal for Jørgen Voilås.

He’s very popular in the squad and with locals so it’ll be interesting to see what happens at the end of his second season on loan. He has developed into a real leader and would be great signing for the Blues if his loan became a permanent move like his pals Tommy Lonergan and Sam Glenfield.
