Tuesday Blue

Tuesday Blue

This week's Tuesday Blue is Calum Costello who has had a fantastic week over in Fleetwood. The Carrick-on-Suir man, who turns 20 in May, has been made captain of Fleetwood Town’s Under-21s by new manager Phil Parkinson (replacing Matt Lawlor because of his role with the first team). It’s testament to Calum’s attitude and application that he has been given that responsibility.

Costello is on a two-year loan deal from Waterford along with fellow Blue Zak O’Sullivan. The second picture shows them after a fantastic comeback win away to Coventry City on Friday. The Cods were a goal down at half-time, but came back to win 2-1 and enjoyed the post-match celebration in the dressing-room.

They backed that up with another dramatic comeback today after the lads had a short visit home to Waterford at the weekend. Hosting Sheffield Wednesday in another Professional Development League game, Fleetwood came from two down inside the last ten minutes to draw 3-3 with a 95th/minute equaliser. No doubt the skipper led by example with his usual competitive grit.

It’s great seeing these local lads progressing well at Poolfoot. Calum’s cousin Ronan Mansfield impressed with an outstanding performance off the bench on Friday having been the first to travel to Fleetwood on a season-long loan in 2024/25.

Calum, of course, is a lifelong Blues fan who was a mascot on a couple of occasions, ball boy many times and came through all the way from Under-13s to earning a first team contract. He was the hero in the 2024 Munster Senior Cup final and played nineteen times on loan for Bray Wanderers in the first half of last year. He’s a serious prospect who has worked extremely hard to earn every opportunity.
