Tuesday Blue

Tuesday is Blues Day and this week’s Tuesday Blue is Jordan Power. Jordan underwent major surgery yesterday in Dublin and the good news is he is doing well and recovering.

Jordan, who I’m very proud to call a friend the last eight years, is a relentless Blues supporter who travels well over an hour each way from Tallow to follow the team at the RSC no matter what. I’ve banged on about him many times before, but it’s because he is an absolute superstar who inspires me.

Jordan has required over forty operations from childhood and takes each challenge with incredible bravery. This week’s surgery was a major decision that will hopefully relieve a lot of pain in the long-term. But he is about much more than medical issues and that’s what makes him who he is.

Not only does he overcome any obstacles for himself, but Jordan also leads a fundraising campaign to help others. Through his connection with the Little Blue Heroes Foundation, he set up the Jordan EmPower Hope initiative which provides power banks to children who need to stay in hospital for treatment, allowing them to stay connected to their families and friends and to alleviate some of their stress and isolation. He is also just as big a GAA fan who goes to all the Waterford hurling matches and is Vice President of Tallow GAA club. He has a deep love of sports and he thrives on following the Blues through good and bad days. Even on Sunday evening before major surgery, he was hitting me up for team news and transfer rumours.

So many players have been very fond of Jordan over the years from his school pal Ronan Mansfield to Podge Amond, Maleace Asamoah, Wassim Aouachria, Junior Quitirna, Zack Elbouzedi, Kenny Browne, all of the Nolans and many more. Women’s team captain Maeve Williams sent him a lovely message today wishing him a speedy recovery and a quick return to the RSC.

Jordan, who turns 23 in July, is funny, cheeky and will speak his mind whether he thinks the team have been good or bad! But he is a fantastic supporter and great friend. Looking forward to seeing him back at games very soon.
