Tuesday Blue

Tuesday is Blues Day and this week’s Tuesday Blue is Bobby Keohan. I’ve included hat-trick scorers here before, but Bobby had an even rarer achievement at the weekend with a hat-trick of assists.

The Under-20s romped to a 6-0 win against CK United on Saturday to return to the top of the Tier Two table and Keohan created three of the goals himself. First, he made a super run to get on to a wonderful switch of play by centre back Matt Barrett and whipped an excellent ball in for Mason Murphy to open the scoring. He set up the fourth with a pass to Orion Cala and conjured up another great pass for the final goal from Jan Wozniak.

That’s typical of the inventive flair Bobby brings to the Blues. It seems that every week when I look for the details to write the weekly academy round-up, I see one or two assists from the dynamic midfielder. But so many goals come from his sensational set-piece delivery too that he’s often responsible for the pass before the assist.

 

 

Bobby came up through the levels at Bohemians locally before joining the Blues first in 2023 at Under-14s. Despite only turning 17 in July, he is in his fourth season at the club and is very highly-rated by coaches and fans of the academy teams. Keith Long was very excited about his potential and called him up to the first team squad when Keohan was just 15.

International honours followed with a cap for the Republic of Ireland Under-16s in a match against Finland last year and he was one of a group of young players brought over to play for Fleetwood in the Poolfoot Cup.

One weekend this time last year stood out as showing off his full repertoire with two goals for two teams. First, there was a thumping right-footed strike into the top corner for the Under-20s against UCD. Then, 24 hours later, he lifted a delightful chip over the Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper with his left foot to score for the Under-17s. He has that mix of deft trickery and a rocket of a shot. He scored one a couple of years ago that was a carbon copy of Adam O’Reilly’s recent forty-yard strike at the RSC.

Always a fun player to watch, you can see his physical development now as he has built up his strength and conditioning for the rigours of professional football. Bobby is a gem of a player and a true Blue who can have an exciting future in the first team.
