Derby Day - by guest writer Conor Barry

It’s Matchday 4 and it’s a big one, Waterford FC VS Cork City FC, The Munster Derby.

Derby Day Tensions

Derby Days always bring the aspect of anger and atmosphere amongst fans. The last time we ran into the Rebel Army, was that famous night in Tallaght Stadium, “Parsons Looking To Bend One” echoed through the screens of onlookers at home as the ball rocketed to the far right top corner. Coughlan dummied the City keeper in his penalty that secured our top flight endeavours.

Team Information

Waterford are reportedly down four men - Grant Horton who seems to be recovering from a leg injury sustained earlier in the season, Smith is nursing a knock which has him sidelined, Trae Coyle had injured his hamstring in preseason against Bohemians and Ryan Burke is serving a suspension. Cork are missing Wonderkid Cathal O’ Sullivan to a muscle injury, Evan McLaughlin is expected to not travel with a Leg injury and finally former Blues player (only 4 appearances) Harry Nevin with an ankle injury.

Past Run Ins

Apart from the iconic playoff victory, the Blues have not been victorious over Cork since September 2019. Previously, 3 draws and 5 victories plagued us before a victory.

Predictions

A run in that won't be simple, Cork have not actually been bad for the start of the season post promotion. Feedback from a Cork fan who has examined our tactics has seen a flat five back. I think we’re gonna be victorious and winning 2-0. Thats all from me!
